xsTech - Drill Bits?

We have an xsTech - want to be able to drill stuff.

Unlike larger machines which can take a variable-sized drill-chuck, and allow use of multiple drill sizes, we have to use one of the collet-sizes only. So where are we supposed to find drill bits that:

  1. Have short enough length to be used in these smaller mills
  2. Have shank sizes that are compatible with the machine

There are some sets avalable, but they are generally geared for PCB making, and are VERY small, maxing-out at about 3mm.

So - where can we find a set of drills of sizes (let’s say 1/16" to 1/4"-range) in “normal, working ranges” that will work with xsTech?

I think what your looking for is a set of Numbered Stub length drills
they range from #80 (0.0156) to #1 (0.2280)
Chicago Latrobe makes these
you can buy individual sizes from McMaster-Carr

If you have an ER spindle, with a set of collets you should be able to fit any stub-length (also called “short” or “screw length”) drills. You can also get them in fractional, letter and metric sizes, but nearly all of them will have shanks the same diameter as the drill.
