On Tormach’s site I stumbled across various sized “threaded arbors” like this one:

What is this used for?

This would be used for threaded heads, such as: 38160 - DIJET QM Mini Modular Insert High Feed End Mill: 1/2 in.

Okay. So the picture doesn’t really show what you’re getting. It’s really a threaded hole, not a super long stud sticking out.

You are getting that stick out. The threaded hole is at the end of the stud. There are multiple lengths.
