Updating the underlying Linux Mint?

I had kinda borked my lathe’s PathPilot install, but managed to get it updated to the latest. But by default my machine comes up to a blank Linux Mint desktop (no mate-panel running, even).

Anyway, in my exploration, I see I’ve got Linux Mint 17 installed, and I doubt it has been updated since I installed PP 2.0.x the first time.

Does Tormach have a recommendation for updating it to a more recent version?

We specifically recommend you do not attempt to update the OS, many packages will break with an attempt to do so. If attempted the only recommendation we can provide is restoring Pathpilot with a recovery USB.
