Touchscreen only works in some places

My 1100mx touchscreen is only working in places where I don’t use it. Most of the important stuff, Z probe, tabs, G30, and the midi input line don’t work. Most of the center seems to work but I don’t touch screen there because, there aren’t many butt s there. Referencing buttons work fine. I cleaned the screen and made sure there aren’t any chips jammed around the edge, what else can I do? Also the calibration doesn’t work because I can’t get the first point to register.

Fire up the Linux terminal. evtest should tell you if it registers at the dead locations (calibration is off) but is in the wrong location or if you get no trigger at all (failed hardware). There are alternate calibration utilities, subject to being installed or being able to install on the linux distro that PP uses. Could also be a firmware issue in the touchscreen. This is more generalized info, as I have a generic touchscreen monitor and not an operator console but the principle should be similar for you. If it is a firmware issue, tech support may have a remedy. Theoretically, digitizers, assuming you can get that part by itself, can be replaced as opposed to the whole display if it has failed but it may be more than you want to deal with in terms of a repair project.

I would start by adjusting the sensitivity to see if you can change the results. I’m on mobile and don’t have it handy but the command should auto populate after you type “admin touchscreen”
If you are having hardware issues and crank the sensitivity too high then your mouse might start bouncing all over the place. If that happens then press ALT + ENTER to jump to the MDI line so you can adjust it back down or all the way to 0.

I tried to run the calibration yesterday but quit after I couldn’t get it to read the first touch point. I deleted the new calibration file 0 bytes assuming it was just an empty named file. This morning the machine booted up and said Missing touchscreen calibration recalibrate now. When I went to touch the first point it worked perfectly. So for no reason everything is fine and working today. They have changed the Admin touchscreen commands somewhat. But it’s all better today.

For some reason the calibration file was missing again today, I recalibrated and it was fine. Seems like something is going on.

Might want to post the file name to get some clues about what creates/maintains it to determine why this is a repeat issue…

I noticed all my touch screens are slow or delayed. One of the updates changed something causing a delay. Now I have to touch and hold my finger for a short time before it registers.

Kind of annoying, but I guess I can adapt. After many years I develop a feel for how things react and having that work slower is not fun.

This problem appears to be heat related. Most of the summer it was very hot in my shop. Now that temperatures have dropped considerably the response of my touch screens has gone back to normal.
