Tool too long for turret

I just got a knurling tool from Stafford Special tools and I think I’m really going to like it, except for one thing. It’s too long for the turret when the current tool in the turret is on X zero-ish. So when the turret swings to change the tool to the knurler or others the knurling tool holder will crash into the carriage.

This could be solved by including an X move up a little on a G30, but I don’t see a way to do that in the current post or in G30 settings. I hope I am missing something!

I have started working on solving it by customizing the post, but it would be much better if it were part of a G30 move, so that even when a program isn’t running, I could safely swing the turret by hitting G30 and then executing the turret movement. I can, of course, do it by hand, but I’m trying to make it slightly more foolproof.

Thanks

Scott

I have a pinch straddle type. Haven’t used it in a while but i have a 40 position QCTP below the turret. Most of the force is pinching, works great.

I need a fixture to mount a tool post to. I should do that but also would like to leave the gang plate on there. I was able to work it out in the post but that’s not fool proof. I am testing out using it as a bar puller too, which so far is working out very good.

Scott,

I don’t see why you don’t just move where you have G30 set to.

Thank you,

@Norman
As far as I can tell, G30 only sets the Z location. I hope I’m wrong, please make my day by telling me I am! I need X to move up so the tool will clear when the turret spins.

Thanks

Scott,

Uncheck this.

Thank you,

Awesome! Uncheck that and then when I hit set G30 it will store a safe X & Z? Fantastic, Thanks Norman!

I cut the gang plate so I could have max diam across X and can adjust the QCTP.
