So my tailstock lever was not catching and locking down the tailstock so I took it off and found the problem! The bolt that went on the T nut at the bottom was a little loose so I tighten it and fixed it however I can’t get the tailstock back on because of the T nut
Turn the T nut 1/2 a turn less and slide on tailstock. You might need to align and hold t-nut flat while you slide it on. I had to adjust my tail stock a couple years ago and had no problem. You just have to fiddle with it a little to get it right.
Good luck with using lathe with a damaged way oil system. Without way oil on all the mated moving surfaces the lathe will not last long. Could even lock up if it sets for a week or so.
I keep my machines clean and in excellent condition and well lubricated. This limits operation drama and the machines will work for years and years.
Yeah. I had to fiddle with my tail stock a little bit by taking it off, making a small adjustment to the tension bolt, and putting it back on. After a few times I got it right where I want it and haven’t had to mess with it.
After thinking about it, I don’t rely a 100% on any oiler system anyway.
I lube 1100 mill z ways and ball screw manually now and then and lathe z and x ways and ball screws after every couple of uses. I also brush lube on the z bed ways and screw when the machine is going to set for a few days. You could manually lube an 8l with a little effort.
this is good advice - I just got a new 8L (made in 2024) and the oiler system was installed very poorly. No oil would get to the Z ball screw as well as the rear Z axis way. I took it apart and cleaned it out, I think the problem was stuck restrictor/check valves. You can take those apart, clean, and reassemble, at least that worked for me. Or get new ones. Some of the aluminum line ends were also crimped almost closed but that probably wasn’t an issue unless there was some grit in there that I didn’t see when I blasted it out. After all that, as well as blasting out the internal passages for the X and Z way oil points with WD40, and compressed air, and then running many pumps of WD40 through the system to flush anything else out, I am getting oil to every point… except still not to the rear Z way - there’s something wrong with the internal passages. Guess I’ll just be manually oiling it.
So yes, don’t rely on manual oil systems unless you test them frequently. Now I need to go through my PCNC 440’s system because I bet it has similar issues that I haven’t noticed.
