I’ve had my 770M with enclosure for just over a week now.
I discovered during assembly of the enclosure that you are expected to slide the side windows down in from the top, through slots on the top. Well that just ani’t going to work in a shop with a low ceiling.
I got the assembly done working from the inside with some tricks and crazy contortions on my own without any help. Don’t want to do that again. Also I was anticipating how easy the access would be (when needed) by removing the side windows.
I’m currently thinking I’ll redesign the attachment such that I can just lift them up from the inside and pull them out the front doors.
So 2 questions:
- How often do you remove the side windows for access?
- Any existing solutions for easy removal in a low ceiling shop?
Thanks,
Dave
I slide them up when cutting long metal bars and tubes. You can also take off one side of the support and slide it forward (Y-axis). I don’t do it often. I just removed the top window supports and leave them off (also loosen the other supports so the window can slide) that way I can slide the windows up any time and just put a bit of wood under to hold the window up. My shops celing has a dent from the motor cover hiring it when I forgot to lower it after changing to the low belt. And the left side of my mill is 2 inches from the wall so it’s pretty tight geting around.

Yeah, that’s a good point. I already considered trimming the tops of the windows - there is about 6" extra above the opening. I was only considering that in regards to assembly.
But I’ve got maybe 8" above the enclosure (ceiling is about 2" higher than the spindle head in it’s full up position) - triming the window tops plus what room I have would give me a good deal of open window if I slide them up until they hit the ceiling.
Not the same as totally removing them, but should be plenty for most cases.
Thanks.
I think the tall side windows might help keep coolant from escaping over the top.
