Setting up the path pilot

Hey all,

I have a Tormach 440 mill, and I am having a heck of a time figuring out how to setup the path pilot component.

I have the new version of the path pilot, and I am honestly not sure how it directly connects. I have not found any upgraded documentation which shows how this works, although I am certain that I am over thinking it. Do I connect the RG-25 port on the wiring cabinet directly to one of the com ports of the controller? Or does it connect through blue tooth?

Why is there an RG-25 port of the periphery controller?

Thank you!

@Daniel_Levenson you are looking for something that looks like Tormach DB25 Interface Kit - SKU 51807 as an interface between the PP controller and the DB25 connector on the electrical cabinet.

Thanks Davie! That is really helpful. I know this should have been painfully obvious, but it wasn’t for some reason.

Does the DB25 interface connect to a usb onto the path pilot, or does it connect directly between the two ethernet ports?

I have the console on my mill and it’s Ethernet. I am assuming that’s how they all are. I know the Ethernet port isn’t for internet though.

Okay, thank you so much! This confirms what I needed to know.

The 440 originally came with a “full size” PC that had a PCI card with that 25-pin machine interface port which connects to the Leadshine stepper controllers for the axes, limit switches, and BLDC drive. The 25-pin interface on the back of the 440 hasn’t been updated but PCs have changed dramatically since the release of the 440.

That new mini PC can’t accommodate that piece of PC hardware, so you have the intermediary device Davie specifies which converts to an Ethernet port.

This was pretty much a guess for me, not clear. Most likely the documentation on the device between the PathPilot controller DB25 and the Leadshine is updated by now?
