I recently discovered that there is a setting for spindle type speeder. I tried it out from the GUI.
Set spindle type speeder
Enter 15000 RPM on main for RPMs
Hit the FWD button
Spindle starts up and displayed RPMs drops to 5000 (which is the correct main spindle speed if you want the speeder to run at 15000). So I figured GREAT - don’t need to use my modified post processor to correct all the speeds in NC files.
So tonight I load an NC file with proper true speeds - what I want at the final speeder spindle and hit cycle start.
It process the gcode correctly and starts up the main spindle at 1/3 the gcode RPMs.
It then sits there for 20 seconds — and times out and shuts down with a “spindle at speed timeout”
Looks like the timeout code is looking for the full final speed instead of 1/3 - the pre-speeder speed.
So while you can set the spindle type to speeder you can’t run gcode with actual final spindle speeds. This is definitely a bug if you are trying to use a speeder.
I’m back to using my post processor setting that I added to the XoomSpeed post processor that changes all the spindle speeds to 1/3 requested.
If anyone needs the patched post processor I can probably share it here. I’d want to ask David Loomes first.
