Profiling with the 15l

I have a bit of a roadblock learning to use my 15L today. I have a front toolpost on it and according to the manual I need to use negative numbers for diameters . Works fine for all the other modules I have tried. With profiling, seems like I need to use positive diameters.
Is this correct or is some parameter changed? Seems odd to change tactics.

I should have added there aren’t many videos about using a toolpost vs turret

It’s been a while since I messed with it, so caveat emptor, but Front toolpost tool offsets are the negative side of center from the turret, so G01X-1 would put the front toolpost tool 1 off-center towards you. Depending how you set the tools, If your tool is 2 longer than your zero tool, then you’d put it’s length at -2.

Actual work diameters I think remain the same.

Not a problem with setting the offsets.

The conversational modules I have used all use negative numbers for diameter. Facing, turning, threading. Have not used grooving yet. But the only way the profile works for me is to use positive numbers for diameter. Negative numbers with a tool orientation for front toolpost doesn’t show on the toolpath display.
I can use it now I figured it out but seems odd to mix. I wonder how that will work out with manual programming. More fun learning.

My 8L seems to work the same way. I get an occasional warning about “Offset should be Pos/Neg”, but it all ends up working anyway. The 8L only (currently) comes with that front tool post and we’re doing all of our programming in Fusion with occasional hand-edits. Currently set up in Diameter mode, so X1.0 is actuall the tool at 0.500” away from the centerline of the lathe towards the operator. It works for us! Best of luck!

Look at the gcode that the conversational created and see if it is positive or negative.

Had a chance to check and yes the gcode actually reads negative like it should.
Thanks
