I have an original 1100, upgraded over time to a series 3 PCNC 1100. It is still on the series 1 stand and chip tray (probably okay at the time, but it sucks!).
Seems I missed the boat on buying the series 3 stand and enclosure and I am getting ready to add flood coolant.
Does anyone know if it is possible to put a S3 1100 in a 1100MX enclosure? I also want to use the 1100MX stand and chip tray, and enclosure.
I am happy to modify it, just wondering if anyone has the experience to know if it is possible?
I can measure the pads on my 1100mx enclosure. Have they changed the original base casting or do all the 770 and 1100’s have the same iron base and column?
I know one person that replaced their s3 mill stand with a m series stand with front coolant tank access and chip tray.
Tormach started selling the bases because I guess the demand to replace the s3 base was high.
In short: yes the 1100M enclosure will - mostly- fit on a PCNC1100. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind:
You will need the 1100M stand as well, this enclosure will not fit on the PCNC stand.
You will need to make a few small modifications to get this enclosure to work on your machine. Most notably the electrical cabinet is a different size on the M and PCNC machines so you will need to fabricate at least one panel between the right side of the electrical cabinet and the right wall of the enclosure.
Note that the 1100M and MX enclosures are the same, except for the color.
Thanks for the response! I thought the 770 and 1100 castings were different, but I guess that was more of an assumption on my part. Looks like Davie knows it will work, but if you feel like measuring I would love to verify those measurements on my machine.
I think the 1100 and 770 castings are different (I’ve not owned a 770, but seen them) unless someone at Tormach says otherwise. The enclosures certainly are.
As I read it, @Davie was talking about the 1100M and 1100MX which share the same enclosure, albeit with a different paint color (my 1100MX is in an 1100M-painted enclosure)
