Passive Probe Won’t Setup

I have tried everything and am just as confused as when I started. Based on a thread here I ended up getting a Drewtronics TTS passive probe. It plugs in fine. It triggers the light on itself fine. It triggers the light in PathPilot just fine when you touch the tip.

But what it will not do at all is be set up!

I follow the instructions to zero on the spindle using a reference surface and click the button while on Tool 0. I then put the probe in, set tool to 99 and hit the button in that section to touch the probe and learn its height. And it does nothing.

Well, the first time I tried it it moved but I accidentally knocked it and so it thought it hit zero. So I started back at the beginning. This time when it did the probing section it moved at 1/10th of a thousandth per second! Just micro stepping down til it touched off. But then nothing came of it. 3rd attempt plus it just does nothing. I click the button to do the touch off step and it just sits there not moving.

Retried a dozen times. Restarted the machine. Restarted the computer. Doesn’t matter. No movement whatsoever.

Did you slip and adjust your feed rate overrides? What is your probe rough and fine travel speed set to?

Honest answer? No clue. This is hour 1 of having a probe and I already feel defeated. That said, this is an old machine and I see the previous owner had 99 already named probe so it’s possible he’s set it to something I’m not aware of.

Update: It was bugging me so I went out to the shop and fired it up again. Sure enough, tool 99 was set to 0 IPM! $5 says after my first failed attempt I reached over to change back to tool 0 to start over and somehow the focus was in the feedrate box and I slapped in 0 and hit enter.

I feel dumb, but also excited to get to using my probe. Thank you!
