I am buying an 1100mx of a guy. What skates should I buy to move it around my garage?
What is the width and length of the base? please.
@Paul_Baker welcome to the Tormach Forums!
The mill base itself is 1010mm x 960mm x 595mm tall.
You can use a general purpose pallet jack to move the unit around.
$80 at CostCo…still have to get it on and off it…though…
I did the second greatest tormach move ever. (The first was the guy that moved his down stairs to the basement inside a house). I moved mine down an alley 650mm wide into my garage. You are probably thinking “even with the y axis motor removed the base minimum dimension is still 760mm. Well Once I knocked down the old brick wall next to the path I got the alley width up to 780mm. The hard part was pouring the concrete ramp to get it up to the garage door. (The old path was just pavers and it was trying to tip over as they sunk into the ground). So once it was to the garage door I had to lift it over the 2” high threshold. That was easy as I had a the three 7’ greek guys who had been removing bricks all day and one of them thought he could lift it by himself. Until I pointed to the 600Kg painted on the box. So while he went off to the gym to prepare. I installed the chain hoist in the double roof joist (with steel sandwich plate). Once that was done we kind of slid the mill from one pallet jack to the other pallet jack over the threshold, using the chain hoist to pull gently. Once it was in the garage I just lifted the 1600 pounds into the air and put it on the table. The scary part is when the roof joists start bending as they take the weight of the mill. As i imagined my wife yelling at me because I collapsed the garage in our new house I quickly positioned the base under the mill and lowered it. Yay, no collapsed garage and better yet, by not dropping the mill I didn’t bend the frame. Which I don’t believe is covered by warranty. It took only a few hours to move the mill but the 2 weeks l preparing for it was worth it. The mill did sit out in front of my house for 2 weeks but it’s not as if someone can just run off with it.
Makes three of us moving a 440 down a grade on grass strapped down to a dolly look like child’s play.
If that was second craziest…what is #1? ![]()
Hi
can a pallet jack go under the machine base from the front of the machine
PAUL
Yes. You have to be careful and your best bet is to run a couple of 4x4s cross ways to pick up from underneath the stand instead just the tips of the front and back of the stand.
FWIW if you want to move a 770M/MX with a pallet
Jack then you will have better luck with a skinny pallet jack.

Hi
can a pallet jack go under the machine base from the front of the machine, AS I about to pay a house removal guy to pick mine up
PAUL
Yes. I move my whole 1100mx with enclosure on a pallet jack. Just take the coolant reservoir chip tray.
That said. If it tips more than. A few degrees it becomes unstoppable so keep it as low as possible on a perfectly smooth floor. Also don’t forget the feet come off. Can’t remember if they screw in it just dowel holes. I think they just skip in but the gunk usually holds them in if they have been there for a while.
If you plan to move anything else heavy in the future a pallet jack is a great purchase. The width of the pallet forks will fit under the machine and allow you to move with ease. This is by far the safest and simplest way to move any of the Tormach mills.
Dr Jones
Should I buy a narrow one or standard
Paul
You should measure, they are all different.

Do you know if the 1100mx weights 600kgs on its own with the ATC attached, I have removed my mill from the enclosure I now need to put it on a pallet so I can roll it onto the tailgate lift of the hire truck

System weight for the 1100mx premium version is 760kg. That has the enclosure, atc, console and oiler so everything. I think the top half is 400kg and the bottom is 200kg. The atc shipping weight is only 40kg so its really negligible. I think the atc is very fragile though and won’t stand up to someone grabbing it for a handle.
Make sure your movers aren’t 2 idiots.
When I moved mine into my workshop I was having the landscaping done, so I had a few of the builders help me. One of them thought he could just lift the column by himself. I said sure and then pointed to the box “Heavy 450kg”. We all had a good laugh.
Wow is this the same machine you were buying in July? Almost there….
You must be patient, it was killing me waiting 2 weeks for my concrete ramp to cure, so I could roll mine into the shop.
