After several years of being the monkey in front of my machine, I have finally sprung for an ATC in an effort to improve efficiency in my shop. I’ve always told myself that as soon as I got one, the next thing I would get is a chip fan so I don’t have to spend as much time blowing coolant and chips off after a cycle.
While I would prefer one with auto-deploying blades like the Haas or Redline, I’m concerned that the length when collapsed could led to a collision with a taller part when the fan is in the carousel (probably unlikely, but you never know). That has me looking at a fixed blade fan to keep the height down but now I’m concerned with the space between tools in the carousel and how big of a thing I can fit before it interferes with the tools on either side.
Has anyone measured, or otherwise determined the maximum diameter that will fit in the ATC without hitting the adjacent tools?
Ian,
3" is the max you can use with tools adjacent to each other.
