G-Code error: Cutter compensation:

Trying to use cutter comp for the first time and I’m getting the following error message.

G-Code error: Cutter compensation: line entry move length 0.05597 is not greater than the tool radius 0.25 in NAS/ gcode/Op 1 Microar adapter. nc: line 9164: G1 G41 X-0.2809 Y0.053 D34

I’m using Fusion to create the toolpaths and if I change the lead in amount I get a different “move length” in the error message. Any ideas?

UPDATE 2 It would appear it is an issue with my post processor, I was using Xoomspeed’s post for probing etc. I switched back to the updated Tormach post and it appears to solve that error. I have a little more testing to do but I think for now if using wear I’ll need to use the Tormach post.
@David_Loomes

UPDATE 1: I can get the error to go away if I change the lead-ins to greater than the tool radius but is that the solution? It would seem like that could be a problem in some situations where there isn’t room for that long of a lead. For example opening up a bore where the starting/finished bore is barely larger than the tool.

I’m still trying to understand this if anyone has insights that would be great. If you’re bored here’s my conversation with chatGPT about it.

Well looks like the knowledge base here needs an upgrade

It’s my current belief that there is something in the way the Xoomspeed post handles the cutter comp that is the problem. That’s likely why no one from Tormach has chimed in. In the meantime, I will use the Tormach post if I need cutter comp You would think Tormach would look at the Xoomspeed version and include some of the probing, etc. that is in there, wouldn’t you?

Scott,

The standard post includes calls for probing macros that I wrote. I’ll note though that we don’t write any post processors, that is the responsibility of the CAM vendor.

Thank you,
Norman

That’s good to know, Norman, thanks!
