Not sure, but my machine may have had an improper shutdown. Now, Booting launches Pathpilot, but I’m taken to:
"Error Starting PathPilot
It Appears that Pathpilot was not able to start successfully. Sometimes this can be caused by incorrect machine configuration…"
Things were fine before this. I’m pretty much dead in the water here. Saying OK takes me to End-User License Agreement, then Machine Configuration (I choose my appropriate Machine), then nothing happens (I’ve tried inserting PP USB at this point), and it takes me back to the Error Starting Pathpilot message, and we repeat.
I read somewhere typing “fsck” or “fsck -yk” might be able to restart the machine, but no luck. I hit F2 upon startup, and I can see a failing step reading something to do with reading files for startup. I’ve also booted with the PP USB stick in, but I would rather not re-image the entire thing if I can avoid it. I’d really like to keep the files on the machine. Frankly I don’t see why I would need to do this if it’s booting PP okay.
Try booting to a different machine. If that doesn’t work there is a key sequence to short load these Linux machines but I don’t know it. The boot to recovery for path pilot is shift. I would open a ticket.
Which machine is this? If you can get into BIOS, check the time and date are correct. When the motherboard battery dies PP does some odd things in my experience.
This happened to me years ago when I first got my machine and decided to try to mess around with the inner workings of pathpilot before I knew what I was doing. In the end, I had to reflash it to get things working again. Sadly, I don’t recall what the procedure was to do that so hopefully someone else will chime in.
Before you try below try disconnecting everything and rebooting.
A quick search for path pilot boot keys returns.
Boot the Pathpilot controller; At the Tormach “splash screen” (the one with the image) press the ALT and SHIFT keys and keep depressed until the operating system
There is also this one.
I would still open a ticket. If the files on the machine are really important there are ways to get them before restore. You will definitely need another computer though.
