I am trying to enter the number of the tool that is in the spindel into Pathpilot, type the number into the field next to the white “T” and press enter just like the video, and it will not register. No ATC, just trying to enter the tools by hand. Has anyone else run into this?
The GC that is executed by that UI feature won’t work unless the machine is referenced and idle (not in e-Stop (reset) and axes are referenced).
What does it say in the Status tab (F1) when you try to enter a tool number? If there is an error, then it should identify why it won’t execute that GC and assign a tool to the spindle.
I took the machine out of E stop, ran the spindle and oiled the machine. I referenced all the axis and the status tab is clear. I still can’t enter anything in the tool number field. I click in the field, the field turns blue, but I can’t type in the field. I have also tried high lighting the zero in the tool number field and entering 33 ( My current tool.) but nothing happens.
- What machine / variant are you on? Just bought it new? Secondhand? This info may help to get someone’s attention on here with the right knowledge to assist further.
- You could try to do the same things on the simulator (PathPilot Hub() and see if it works there just for a sanity check that you aren’t missing something, since it’s hard to troubleshoot asynchronously.
- Submit a ticket/call into tech support and get “official” help. This doesn’t seem like normal behavior or something that you are missing.
If it’s not reset, I get an error in the status tab as follows:
Button m6_g43 only permitted when machine is in state(s): referenced and idle, current state is e-stop
When I reset it but it is not referenced:
Button m6_g43 only permitted when machine is in state(s): referenced and idle, current state is reset
After referencing, it will accept a tool number in that dialog
What about typing M6 T33 in the MDI? What does that do?
I submitted a ticket to tech support and they solved the problem. Very simple and more than a little embarrassing. I didn’t have the number lock on the keyboard. The machine is new. My coworker who ran the machine and has a machining background left the company. I am trying to learn how to set up and run the machine by watching youtube videos. I have a lot to learn.
Glad they got you sorted…figured it was something simple…
The ACE CNC curriculum is a well structured online course you might want to look at completing instead of watching random YouTube videos. They have a free in-person curriculum if you can get to one the centers they offer that training at (probably can get your employer to cover travel expenses since it’s free).
I just found out about another one, Machining AdvantEdge - going to try and run through it to see if there is better info than ACE in terms of well structured.
