Hi folks, I have a bench mill that I converted to CNC. Currently running Masso as that’s what came with the conversion kit that I bought used. It’s a typical 3-axis machine, running DMM servos on all axis and a 1.5Kw servo for spindle motor.
I don’t love the Masso software and just today Masso announced that all upgrades requires a $250USD subscription.
I have looked at PathPilot and like what I see.
Wondering what the conversion pathway to PathPilot would be for my machine.
I’m thinking a Mesa board but not sure what else I might need.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
FWIW, Masso seem to have backtracked on the $250 annual subscription fee, at least according to James Clough on his forum (Clough42 on Youtube).
Yes they did. There was a fairly significant amount of pushback from their user base so they walked the whole thing back.
That said I’m still interested in running PathPilot but I just don’t know where to start.
I’d probably move the MASSO controller to my CNC router or sell it.
There used to be some threads on CNC-Zone about installing PathPilot on non-Tormach machines, but traffic on that forum has dropped way off over the past few years. You can probably find some relevant info in old threads there. though, in the Tormach section.

A couple of features missing on PathPilot I wish it had.
Recognizing a predrilled hole in the pocket function.
Only polygons it does is square or rectangular.
Does Masso have a conversational feature that will allow you to draw a profile? Not in PathPilot.
I suspect most use CadCam, but I don;t have internet in my shop>

Masso does have conversational programming to face, thread mill, profile, rectangular and circular pocket.
