CockTail CockTable - Custom Up-Cycled Furniture with 24R

A little birdie recommended that I submit this holiday gift to the forums. I made this cocky little tabletop for a dear friend of mine who has a coop of little peckers - using Fusion 360 and my 24R.

The size of the table base is 29.875" in diameter, so it extends beyond the travel of the table, but it is just small enough to clear the gantry - so with a little creative program nesting, basic fixturing and a touch of trig, it was ‘eggs-tremely’ simple.

Each individual wedge of reclaimed wood was cut using a simple, single tool 2D contour path. Once cut, the boards were installed utilizing clamps, weights (ei - heavy stuff I have laying around the shop) and a flock-load of Gorilla wood glue.

After the top stabilized, I faced the top of the table in two stages (turning the top 90 degrees after the first pass due to the limited work envelope). Then I routed out the details for my fine feathered friend and text, utilizing a .5MM tapered ball endmill. Once the pockets were cleared out, I applied a clear coat (to seal the wood grains) and free-poured the resin in multiple stages (being mindful of viscosity ranges over cure times), with a mix of pigmented mica’s (both metallics and matts) to give the details depth and texture.

Once the detail was cured, I sanded/polished the raw top (to 20,000 grit to bring out the epoxy sheen) and applied an oak veneer and boat tacks to the outside edge (being mindful to leave .125" at the top as a barrier for the final coat of self-leveling resin). For the final pour, I leveled the tabletop and poured a half gallon of UV-Protectant clear epoxy (in two stages - hitting her with propane between each layer).

Once curing was complete, I trimmed the remaining veneer and added a convex radii to the top and bottom edges - just hitting it with a hand sander up to 400 grit until smooth.

'Twas a fun little project, and I will be releasing the detailed overview and footage of the build on my YouTube channel later this month (http://www.youtube.com/@WrenchWenchWorx).

I was just winging it for most of this project - and while I don’t wish to sound cocky - the table looks peck-tacular at my friends roost. (Please pardon the fowl language in this post…as I am a chick that tends to get a bit egg-cited when sharing fun CNC projects.)
