Chips on the rear Y bellow causes part failure

I have so many parts fail because of debris trapping in the rear Y bellow and limit the range of motion. Is there a mitigation for that? Obviously I clean the bellow in between runs, but some runs are long and debris accumulate there. Thanks

This thread for some ideas

Look into a dedicated air or coolant nozzle pointed there to try and reduce buildup as well as those suggestions?

Upgraded sliding metal ones for the 1100MX but no rear Y-axis yet…maybe someone else has done that…

I use a sheet of metal to keep the clips from going that way. Just make sure it’s strong enough that it doesn’t bend down and get into the Z way cover while your running. The chips really pile up on it though and onto the work. You basically need another coolant pump just for the front and back way covers. There’s a lot of room between the Y way cover and the bottom of the Z way cover. If tormach put a 30 degree bend in the Y way cover it would evacuate a lot of those chips. (Wink, wink) :winking_face_with_tongue:

Another idea is maybe a hinged bar or brush that sweeps across every time the y travels negative and pushes everything off the way cover.

I installed rubber way material over top of the bellows on front and rear Y and Z

Bellows are in as new condition underneath

The chips that accumulate stay right against the table

I have been using that cover for some time now. Works great so far. Would just have to scale the design up for an 1100.

I saw it! It’s awesome. Can I buy it for 1100MX?

I made my own for the 1100mx with parts from mcmaster

That’s interesting. Can you pls send me more details and BOM? Thx

some folks use these chip flaps to help keep chips from building up. Search results for: 'bellows'

Message me and I will send you the Fusion360 model. You have to scale it up for the 1100mx. Since I don’t have one I don’t feel comfortable charging anybody for it. So if the model gets you started and you can build a working version from it, awesome. I had all the sheet metal made from OshCut and there is some welding to make it work.

Amin,

Hope these pics help

Any questions ask away

Front Y Axis

Rear Y Axis

Z Axis

Have you seen the MFCMD stainless way covers? I know a rear Y cover is currently in the works

Yes I have seen those

Would love to hear feedback from someone who has one. The Z looks nice, however I do not have flood coolant and I’m afraid without constant wash down chips could jam it up.

On there coming rear Y cover they talk about having s built in continuous wash down, cant have that without flood

but I could always get them for better way protection and just continue to use my rubber covers

We want flood, we want flood!
