what is the diameter change per mark on the boring head 30248? is it .001" diameter?

I can’t answer your question directly, but can perhaps offer some advice: to achieve accurate results with anything but the finest (ie criterion brand) boring heads, use an indicator to adjust your head. Simply stick a mag base to the table so the indicator is parallel to boring head, lightly loosen the clamp screws and, holding the spindle still, turn the boring head adjustment screw until you have changed the indicator reading by the half the desired change. (remember your indicator is reading radius, so you want the adjustment to be HALF what your desired bore diameter change is.)
Obviously you can use this method to determine the graduations on the head, BUT the lost motion, movement during clamp tightening, and “stiction” will all be the enemy of a good result.
