Best laser engraving machine for detailed hobby projects?

Check out my response to a similar question here: This thread

I have not used either of those models but from looking over the details I can tell you the following with absolute certainty based on my experience with similar machines:

Software - neither comes with any so you’re either going to have to get lightburn (HIGHLY recommended especially for newer users) or something like LaserGrbl which I didn’t find very easy to use.

Power: 6 of one, half dozen of the other. A 10w diode is a 10w diode. It will mark well enough, engrave reasonably well to very shallow depths, and cut poorly unless you’re working with thin materials.

Detail/Accuracy: Again, no difference. Both are using the same basic drive system. The creality can claim faster speeds because it moves one stepper to the bottom frame instead of the gantry so there’s less mass to move. But both have the same dual belt setup with a long driveshaft which could lead to lash or racking as the belts wear in a bit.

Accessories: A pair of quality safety glasses, NOT the junk that typically comes with the laser. You only get two eyes and once they’re gone, they’re gone so don’t go cheap on the glasses.

Ventilation: Entirely dependent on what materials you’re working with and what you can tolerate for smells. A simple desktop fume extractor with some ductwork can be enough in many cases, or build a simple enclosure and use the same fume extractor for better performance.

Bottom line: If this is your first foray into lasers, I expect you will be disappointed with both. I went through several of those types of machines and ultimately trashed every one of them. I now have an Omtech MOPA and am budgeting for one of their large CO2 machines to go next to it. Both are WAY above the budget of the machines you posted but something like a K40 would do a much better job than either of those. You can get them for around $600 new or scour marketplace for a good used one for probably not much more than those diode machines.
