Announce New Releases suggestion

Tormach people, have y’all considered posting new PP releases here?

I got the email but rather than the occasional “has anyone tried PP 1.2.3 yet?” threads, it could be useful to get notice of each and have comments from people that have tried it.

That would avoid my email pitching a fit about tracking links and malware when I click the ‘release notes’ link in the email as well.

The 2.0 and the new version 3.0 or whatever it will be called could be here for the older people or on github. In this day and time a usb stick is just wasted time waiting. It can be downloaded and usb sticks are readily available everywhere even jiffy stores have them. Load it to the stick and your off in minutes vs days. Many have little downtime windows so timing is key.

Correct me if I’m wrong but having to pay for a USB stick is their gatekeeper for random people having free access to a “from scratch” PathPilot installer for a non-Tormach LinuxCNC DIY setup. If you own Tormach hardware, you should be covered through the updater downloading an update archive file. The USB stick was because of major difference in the underlying operating system for older machines moving to 2.x IIRC.

The intention of this thread is not to argue about Tormach’s major-release distribution model. It’s a suggestion to notify the forum for future point-releases.

The latest and legacy releases can be found on the Tormach website. We update this as soon as new releases go out. You can download them here and load them into PathPilot via the ‘Update’ button in Status to update to the latest version: Tormach PathPilot Updates

The Release Notes PDF for each version contains additional information and steps for how to do this step-by-step for reference.

If your machine is connected to the internet and to HUB, you will automatically get prompted within PathPilot to update to the latest version once it is released. Make sure you have an account here to set that up: https://hub.pathpilot.com/

@Roy Thank you for the suggestion about making a post when we release a new version of PathPilot - we will do this going forward.
