Adding physical override knobs to 440

Searched the forum and can’t find this as a topic. Has anyone added physical override knobs to a 440? I am getting started with mine and use the max velocity and override sliders all the time. It would be really nice to have them as physical knobs.

Under the hood PathPilot is LinuxCNC. It looks like it is open enough that this could be a reality. Has anyone done this or have any resources to point to on someone that has already done this perhaps?

Would it be possible to take the board from the PathPilot display with buttons and add it to the 440 maybe? Otherwise it looks like a Arduino project that there are people that have done this with LinuxCNC.

Check out MadeWithCNC and get one of his pendants. I’ve had one on my 1100 for a couple years now and love it. So much so that I was one of the first to get one for my pocketNC when I still had that machine. Really well built and work great. I’d actually have one for my 440 as well but I may be selling that machine in the near future so I’m hesitant to spend any money on it. He’s a good dude too. Had several chats with him about a variety of topics and found him to be very friendly and responsive.

One thing to bear in mind with pendants is the MPG operates differently than the jog shuttle. When jogging the machine with the rotary, you will get discreet pulses of movement which can seem rather jarring until you get used to it. This is a function of PP and not any fault in the pendant (this has been confirmed by PP tech support, not just something the pendant maker told me)

Thank you! That is almost exactly what I am looking for. Wouldn’t have to figure out all the code behind and keep machining. Will have to pickup one of these. Thank you.

Has anyone replaced PathPilot with Linux CNC for Tormach machines?

What would be the advantage of that? I’m curious…

Because you can. Actually having total control over the user interface. Adding custom probing routines that suit your needs. It is possible to add features to PathPilot but it’s gonna take some research and development.

I get it, it’s a hobby for most of us and part of the hobby is modifying our machines…
