So I’ve got the 8L with the standard OXA tool post and I curious how big can you go with this lathe? Because this tool post since a little small I would like to upgrade it a little bigger
If the toolpost you want is too big the tools cannot be lowered enough to reach the centerline of the part. I bought one that was too big for my manual lathe. I could not use any of my inserted holders that were larger than .5 inches. The tool holder would bottom out before the tool tip reached center. I moved it to my 15l when I purchased it and bought a smaller one for my manual lathe.
I am in the process of upgrading my tool post to the PeWe Tools AS Multifix tool post. I will give an update once the upgrade is completed.
The PWT-AS Multifix tool post is now integrated into my 8L lathe. I fabricated a new adapter block to mount the new tool post. The adapter block is 1.25" tall. This height seems to be a good fit for both 1/2" and 3/8" tooling. This system is more rigid than the v-block style tool post. If anyone wants an adapter block, let me know.
