Has anyone made a steady rest for the 8L or modified an existing one to work on the 8L?
I purchased one on eBay for about $42. Model WM210V (made in china). It was made of painted aluminum with brass guides (just good enough for the job I was doing). To make it level on the 8L bed, I machined about 0.5mm from the flat on the bottom since the ‘V’ groove was a little too deep for level and centered operation (probably designed for a slightly larger lathe). I will eventually machine the brass guides to fit three 3/8” diameter ball bearings.
Thank you for posting that and the pictures. It looks like something that will work
