440 leveling, squaring and traming help

Hi I recently got a 440 and just got done setting it up on the stand and leveling it per the tormach instruction. With my level it shows only .0002 movement along the Y axis so I don’t believe it has a twist in it but when I’m checking the alignment of the spindle head to the table with a test indicator I’m getting a .002 difference in both X and Y. Is it possible there is a twist still or that the head does need to be adjusted? I’m using a starret last word indicator and and amazon special machinist level so right now I do trust my starret more and will be buying or barrowing a better level to double check.

Check out my reply to this thread.

Thanks I ended up comparing my level to a certified one at my job and it is accurate. After completing the leveling procedure I’m only getting about .0002 of twist in Y which is acceptable. I did sweep the table with an indicator mounted to the spindle and have .001 tir in Y and .0015 in X. Would that be acceptable? I bought the machine used and transported it home myself so I’m just trying to check if everything is okay with it after the move or needs to be adjusted.

Make sure all the spindle bolts at the bottom and top(inside the cover), z-saddle and column to base bolts tight. Also put an indicator on one end of the table and pull on the other end. This should tell you if your gib’s are tight.
