15LX self centering chuck working itself loose during drilling operations

when drilling aluminum, we’re having an issue where the cams come loose as its pecking through and the self centering chuck tries to come off the spindle. If anyone else has this machine, counter clockwise to tighten it will NOT go clockwise like my other lathe, and about 1/8 of a turn? my other lathe goes to about 1/4 of a turn for positive lock and its been on the same spindle for about 15 years without ever coming off I understand that’s a different tool, but I’m more or less verifying that I’m not crazy that it might be backwards currently? … regardless of how tight we make it. I’d say this is for sure a safety issue and should be resolved pretty quickly? but I guess I’ll wait a couple of days again on a support ticket on a 30k dollar toy… If anyone here has some advice or can confirm 1/8 of a turn is correct, and counter clockwise is correct?

thanks,

Jon

John,

Please check the response to your ticket I put in at 12:06.

Typically in scenarios like this the culprit is the depth the cam studs were screwed into the chuck so I asked for pictures of the groove mark of them. When properly installed the studs allow the cam locks in the spindle to turn at least 90 degrees clockwise, sometimes 100 to 120 degrees. The cam locks turning only 45 degrees/1/8 of a turn is not correct.

Thank you,

Norman
