15L servo upgrade?

Now that there exist production machines with servos in the wild, when will you offer a servo upgrade package for the original machines? I don’t even care about the rapid speed but not having to rely on marginal homing switches would be worth it for me.

Jon,

Very, very unlikely to ever happen. Our Series 2/3 upgrades for the PCNC mills have been hugely popular but that’s never been the case for the servo and BT30 upgrade kits. If we recouped the cost of development time for the M > MX upgrade kits in their sales I would be surprised (though I don’t know any exact figures). We always want to expand capabilities of existing machines whenever we can (and some are actively in development now) but the reality is that we also have to make sure that we are working on projects that keep the lights on.

Thank you,

Norman

I use a dial indicator mounted to the carriage. I would be really nice to remove it. Homing would require being able to see a tailstock.

Maybe a bumper for homing?

So there has to be a better option for homing switches out there. Magnet and reed switch of some sort?

Hi, I have installed a DRO on mine, so each time I turn on the lathe, I just MDI G0 X10.0 and enter. Then look at the DRO; if both do not match, I use the DRO value for the X axis offset.

Also useful when using a boring bar in the same holder as a drill, I use T1616 in the program instead of T0606 so I do not lose the tool offset for the drill next time I use T0606.

Huh, didn’t think of a dro.

#1 turret tool is my master. Everything else is referenced off that for Z. Easy to get back to where I was.
