I bought a used 15L and it is cutting a .001 taper in1.5”
I set up a magnetic sine plate and used a precision level to get it the same at both extremes of travel.
Level claims .0002 in 10” I just went for the same measurement at both ends. Didn’t help. Is the head pinned or can it be swiveled. I have done this on larger flat bed lathes before. I don’t have a test bar to use with a collet.
The chuck was originally a loose fit on the taper and I ground it to fit properly . My problem is during turning not just using a bar in the chuck.
I could under stand .001 in 6” but not this short.

I bought 3/4" ground bar from mcmaster carr. Think it was from the motion group, bar for linear bearings. Put that in a collet and adjusted from there. Have to pull taper pins on either side. I re reamed them when i was happy.

thanks.
One of the lathes I worked on the head sat on the v ways so the only adjustment was by adjusting the bed. That was an 80 in bed . This short I didnt think that would work.

Think I had 8 inches sticking out. Certainly better than it was. Used a tenths indicator. Had to use shims too. Took a while.
Developed a foot problem this week so it’s going to be a week or so before I get back in the shop.

I have an early 15L and it also has about the same taper as @David_Trader ‘s. I use a Case 60 1-in ground bar in a collet to check taper. Pulling the two pins, shifting the head a bit, and a couple of 0.001” shims have helped but it still needs a bit more adjustment.
Yeah, its time consuming. At some point I called it good. Under a thou over 6-7 inches?
I don’t do long stuff very often so I’m happy.
